Update to Stephen Murray Fund & A Message From Stephen's Brother: June 26, 2007

Jun 26, 2007

Below is an updated version of the press release regarding Stephen Murray fund that we posted about yesterday.

Under that are messages from Stephen's brother, Martin Murray that he posted on bmxtalk.com.

"First and foremost I want to thank everyone who has helped in passing this message along. The initial flood of responses warranted a phone call from PayPal to make sure we where expecting the participation we got! We have received a ton of emails today and the money is starting to come in from all over the world!

The immediate goal is to help with living expenses for the next six weeks as Stephen's family from Great Britain and his wife and children will likely be staying in Baltimore MD for the next six weeks. This will no doubt be something that needs our help for a very long time.

Remember there are three different ways that you can help immediately. All proceeds will be given directly to the Stephen Murray Family.

Email StephenMurrayFund@hotmail.com with the dollar amount you would like to contribute. You will then receive an email back with the invoice that leads you directly to a Pay Pal Secure account where you can pay by credit card or bank account number. It may take some time for you to receive the email back but that is simply because of the volume of donations that we have been getting in. Be patient and look for the invoice with the link to PayPal. We may just have to set up blocks where we can hammer out a ton of invoices.

Mail a check payable to Stephen Murray Family Fund:
92 Corporate Park Ste. C #171
Irvine, CA 92606

Make a bank deposit or wire funds directly to:
Stephen Murray Family Fund
Bank of America
4500 Barranca Parkway
Irvine, CA 92614
Routing # 121000358
Account # 1015867459

I have heard that there are several other large groups and companies looking to participate in different levels of support for Stephen Murray. I would like to coordinate any of those efforts into one united front rather than several splintered efforts. Please use my personal email so that we can utilize the experience and resources of the entire Action Sports community to help Stephen Murray and begin a system that will already be in place for future athletes in our sports. propermanagement@hotmail.com"

The following messages are from Stephen's brother, Martin Murray…

"Hi everyone,
First of all thanks for all your support, it really has been unbelievable.

We have been aware of various rumors floating around and so I am going to update everyone as often as possible via bmx talk as Stephen's condition changes constantly. This way you know the facts as we know them.

So, here is today's.

Firstly, he has suffered a very serious spinal injury. He has crushed his 3,4 and 5th cervical vertebrae and consequently suffered some damage to his spinal chord. He had a 7-hour operation on Saturday to stabilize the chord and relieve some pressure. The front of his vertebrae were shattered and has been replaced.

Following a day of rest (Sunday), he today goes in for a further 7-hour surgery to repair the back of his 3,4 and 5 vertebrae. This should allow some of the swelling to go down.

To let you know how things change, on Saturday we were told he had no movement below his neck. Following Saturday's surgery, we were all surprised when he shrugged his shoulders and now has some sensation on his upper left side of the body. This was really encouraging.

He is on a ventilator and therefore isn't able to talk but communication is possible. He is aware of his condition and is coping better than all of us. Don't forget how strong he is!

On Friday we are expecting the ventilator to come out of his mouth and inserted in his neck which should make communication better, and him more comfortable.

He is in surgery now so the next update maybe tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your support, its unbelievable and a great comfort to us all.

Martin, Cynthia, Jeff, Melissa, Seth and Mason"

"Hi,
Yesterday was a very up and down day. Just to let you know, Stephen didn't have the 2nd operation yesterday due to another crisis case which required Stephen's neuro teams attention. Following this news, we were all given a huge boost by some news that Stephen had some sensation in his backside. Typically, this was felt when a nurse touched his bum! This, along with some sensation i his right wrist and left shoulder gave everyone a huge lift.

However, he developed further complications later in the day with his breathing. His temperature was very high and his lungs were hardly working. They feared he may have developed blood clots in his lungs and so decided to do a cat scan along with some other tests. He was too sick to have the cat scan however, and so they decided to do a bronchoscopy. The results of this were that they found lots of crap in his lungs, but no blood clot. They believe that this is due to inhaling lots and lots of dust from digging and riding trails over many, many years. Sort of similar to that of a miner's lung.

He was due to have the postponed second operation this Morning (7am) and doctors decide to assess his situation 1 hour prior to the operating time to see if he was strong enough to take the anesthetic and come through the operation. Luckily, they decided he was fit enough to take it following his temperature dropping in the night and he is now 2 hours in to a 7 hour operation to further stabilise his broken 3,4 and 5th vertebrae.

This has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster but we are optimistic that by the end of the week he will be more comfortable.

The support we have received is unbelievable and your messages on here are really comforting. He has been too sick for me to read these message out to him but i have told him some of the names that have been sending their regards and it makes him smile. Hopefully, towards the end of the week i will be able to print them all out and read them to him so please, if you haven't already done so, leave a message for him. Its much appreciated.

Thanks-
Martin, Cynthia, Jeff, Melissa, Seth and Mason"
